Dark Romance: 70’s Now

Florals are not new to my blog as you can see here and here. I have a fascination with the 70’s and the back story of my blog is a spin on the club Studio 54 . I admire Grace Jones and Diana Ross and they are major style inspirations.

70’s Boho-Chic

I tend to like sexy second skin silhouettes mixed with classic and contemporary pieces. I adore bright colours, patterns and texture and I have an affinity for crop tops. This outfit is softer and more ethereal-a new aesthetic for me. I respect this style, however, it is not until this post that I have experimented with it. Here is a great resource that really goes into the history of this style.

Wrap dresses & Long-sleeve dresses

Long-sleeve dresses—especially with plunging necklines—were pretty much the ’70s uniform. In a dress with flowy sleeves in a floral pattern you can float back to a groovier time. Wrap dresses had a major moment in this era and then never really stopped being popular. A long sleeve wrap dress should be apart of your capsule wardrobe-it is a staple.

Over-the-knee boots

Over-the-knee boots paired with a dress is practical because it keeps you warm. Typically I associate the boho chic style aesthetic with a chunky heavier boot but I still need to be true to my style.

Slouchy Bag

A structured bag with a top handle or a cross body strap is my go to bag style. With this outfit, I am exploring and playing with a softer more relaxed bag- and it works so well!

Coachella

I avoided the 70’s boho-chic style for a long time because I didn’t want to come off like a wanna-be Coachella attendee. Boho chic can look forced, especially if your intention is to be trendy, whereas in it’s truest form, it is carefree and delicate. It was fun to explore another side of my style!
