THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: FLORALS

The Devil Wears Prada: Florals & Growth in 2020

When my nephew was born, this cartoon, the Backyardians was my show! The cartoon is about a team of friends who take journeys to imaginary places in their backyard. You can call me Uniqua! My backyard is a safe space to work, create and explore my style. I do not take the comfort of my home for granted. There are many people who do not have this same luxury.

Despite how challenging 2020 is, this year is one of my most successful. I have a tendency to overthink and momentarily, I let my guilt distract me. I didn’t embrace my blessings because I felt conflicted about my personal achievements compared to those who are suffering. As much as I would to wear rose colored glasses, the Covid-19 pandemic and images of anti-black racism and police brutality are forced upon me. This is a grossly simplified observation but life isn’t fair.

“FLORALS… FOR SPRING? GROUNDBREAKING.” The Devil Wears Prada

I am playing on the infamous quote from the movie, The Devil Wears Prada, but I do not want to undermine that 2020 is a revolutionary year. 2019 was not my year and I briefly talk about that here. In 2020, institutions, the status quo and power systems are being challenged. Admittedly, this is one of the most literal interpretations of growth however we are harvesting change, but it won’t happen without strife.

I am wishing everyone nothing but love and light during a year and a moment in history that will shape us forever.
