Insecure: The Importance of Telling Your Story

I painstakingly edit, preview, tweak and revisit each blog post before I actually publish it. I pay assiduous attention to everything. For those who use WordPress, that right-hand bar holds many of my secrets. The effort I put into posts can only be outdone by a couturier. BTW- I am exaggerating however, the point remains the same- women need to tell their stories because our stories are transformative. I am insecure at times, however this blog is not about fame instead it about inclusion and representation. I want to create a seat at the table for woman who usually left standing.

Blog Posts

It is so important to express ourselves and the right side of my brain is obese. Before I write I question myself.

When will I have time to take pictures?

Where will I take pictures ?

What am I am going to write about? This question is immediately followed by another question-why am I writing this?

This is how I start writing most blog posts.

Visual Story telling

My logo and brand aesthetic is heavily influenced by the cosmetics industry. A simple search shows dozens of tumblr sites devoted to lipstick messages written on mirror. These range from simple reminder messages, to inspirational quotes to messages to a partner. Cosmetics ads and lipstick handwriting links beauty, fashion and writing. I am a lipstick hoarder and I live for purple, red or pink lipsticks. Here is back story about 54 du Rhone. Here is my first blog post that I talk more about the purpose of my blog.

Issa Rae & Insecure

HBO’s Insecure is written and starring Issa Rae. I have a thing for small-scale sitcoms based on the lives of their creators . Mostly, these semi-autobiographical shows are character-driven and have an acidic, self-deprecating way of examining their stars hence my love for Chewing Gum. Issa Rae, Michaela Coel, Ava DuVernay as well as fashion bloggers and other content creators have proven that our stories, and style are profitable.

Messing up and putting it out there for others to see unbeknownst to many is a revolutionary act. Content creation builds momentum and encourages other women to join suite. I relate most to women who show me that they too are insecure sometimes. Building my confidence is a topic that I have covered in this blog but there’s something beautiful about being insecure and sharing that with other women.
